The fdtCONTAINER-Product family supports the new FDT 2 standard.
The technical basis of the FDT 2 standard is .NET; COM and ActiveX have been replaced. The FDT-Object model was substantially simplified; the data exchange is no longer based on XML-documents, but on .NET-Classes. The DTMs and UIs no longer interact directly, but via the frame application; this greatly improves the threading and the interoperability. DTMs in FDT 2 store the data in a differentiated manner, which significantly shortens the storage- and loading times.
Digital signatures of the FDT 2 DTMs ensure that the DTM actually comes from the stated manufacturer. This guarantees maximum security for the frame application against components from other suppliers. On top of this, all these functions are fully downward compatible. This means that projects can consist of mixed topologies, FDT 2 and FDT 1.2.x DTMs, or exclusively of FDT 1.2.x DTMs. Where possible, the FDT 1.2.x XML structures were transferred into the new .NET data types which were introduced with FDT 2.
